Tết at Fairfield Showgrounds
The One Day in Cabramatta community initiative is slowing down as the Once Upon a Time in Cabramatta documentary series aired the last episode on SBS on 20 January.
To not miss out on all the action of Tết ( Vietnamese New Year celebration) at Fairfield Showgrounds, Maria Tran and her amazing bunch of volunteers mingled amongst the New Year revelers on Saturday 28 January.
BBQ’s were cooking nem nuong (Vietnamese grilled pork), bo la lot (beef wrapped around betel leaf), corn and a variety of Vietnamese noodle salads as hungry punters roamed through the tents. The main stage was packed with entertainment – as young and old were in celebratory mode – at a time to be together with family and forget about the troubles of the past and hope for a better coming year.
This was the perfect setting for the One Day in Cabramatta ambassadors to say hi and talk to the community about their thoughts about the series, and their stories of Cabramatta. The diverse crowd meant the stories and memories shared would once again tell of different era’s and experiences of the storytellers.
ICE and SBS have been so fortunat
e to have the assistance of our fantastic group of One Day in Cabramatta volunteers, with the guidance and advice of Maria Tran and Thuy Nguyen as organisers and outstanding hype-women for this great community project.
The Mobile Story Exchange Cart will continue its journey at ICE, so we thank SBS for this amazing souvenir from the One Day in Cabramatta initiative. Watch out for it in other ICE-related projects.
