Making music is an art but getting it out to audiences is a business. At this free seminar, music industry professionals will explain how to break into the competitive music industry.
From booking gigs to getting your music on the radio, you’ll get an overview on how the industry is structured, how to market yourself and how to use online technologies to connect with audiences and music professionals.
Presented by Information Culture Exchange (ICE) four special guest speakers will share their secrets:
Ozibatla is one of Australia’s favourite MCs, fronting both The Herd and Astronomy Class. Renowned for his political lyrics and activism, he’s also the co-founder of ElefantTraks. He will perform and speak on his experiences as an artist and originator of an independent label, as well as the importance of getting your music out there with gigs and recordings.
Jane Powles is the Director Corporate of Music NSW, with 10 years’ experience as an arts manager under her belt. She is also the founder of Spacejunk Production House, managing bands, labels and tours both nationally and internationally. Jane will outline the structure of the industry, and explain exactly what you need to include in your marketing kit.
Julia Thomas is the Marketing Coordinator for FBi Radio, Sydney’s only independent youth radio station, and she’s spent four years at independent music label Laughing Outlaw Records. Julie will explain what it takes to get your music on the radio.
Nadi Onus has run her own artist management company since the age of 18. She has managed many Western Sydney bands and was a participant in John Butler’s JB Seed Artist Management workshop in 2007. She will share her local knowledge on getting your first gigs in Western Sydney.
The evening will be hosted by hip-hop artist Todd Williams, aka Brass, who’s also the Centre-Based Youth Worker at Holroyd Youth Services.
