Western Sydney’s acclaimed community arts and technology organisation is moving to the heart of Parramatta.

ICE will occupy its new space – at 8 Victoria Rd – from March/April, thanks to the generous sponsorship of the Catholic Diocese of Parramatta.

The move brings ICE close to Parramatta’s major cultural institutions including the Riverside Theatre, Parramatta Heritage Centre, Parramatta Park and the beautiful St Patrick’s cathedral.

Information and Cultural Exchange has expanded rapidly in recent years and the new building, which is considerably larger than its current premises, will provide expanded space for all staff and contractors, as well as program, exhibition and workshop space.

‘Although the inside needs a bit of work, it has good bones and we can renovate to suit our requirements,’ said ICE’s director Lena Nahlous. ‘We are bursting at the seams in our current space, and we desperately need meeting rooms and workshop spaces.’

ICE will begin a fundraising push to enable it to redevelop the space to suit its expanding needs, including facilities for ICE’s Switch Digital Arts & Multimedia Access Centre.

The new building is on the route of the new free Parramatta Loop bus service operated every 10 minutes by Parramatta Council. It’s also a 15-minute walk from Parramatta train station, and a 10-minute walk from the RiverCat Ferry Terminal.

The move comes after five years of support and sponsorship from the Australian Manufacturing Workers’ Union, which provided ICE with space at its national office on Parramatta Rd, Granville.

‘We’d like to sincerely thank the AMWU for their support and sponsorship of us for these past five years, especially AMWU former secretary Doug Cameron and current secretary Dave OIiver,’ said Lena Nahlous. ‘They gave us a home and because of this we were able to grow and develop our programs and work more effectively with our communities.’
