Capturing Minto
“You don’t know what you’ve got till you’ve gone.” (Minto resident)
Remembering Minto is an innovative project initiated by residents of Minto, a community in transition undergoing enormous redevelopment and change.
ICE, in partnership with the Remembering Minto Group, with support from the NSW Department of Housing, is working with residents to capture their stories, their lives in the area, and to remember Minto.
Community Storytelling Festival was a special event that brought people from Minto together to share and hear stories of there lives in the area.
The event featured dynamic performances from the young people of SWYPE and HYPE youth programs, as well as from local primary schools. A range of workshops in storytelling, drawing and painting, spoken word and multimedia provided a creative atmosphere for everyone to record their memories.
The Festival was an official Sydney Writers’ Festival event, and provided a chance for communities to come together to tell and hear their stories. Stories and contributions that were collected at the Festival will be incorporated into the Storytelling project, some to be published in the Remembering Minto book and online publication due for completion in October 2006.
