A selection of the finest urban, hip-hop, R&B and Pacific-inspired harmonies featuring the rhymes, rhythms and tunes of emerging young talent from Western Sydney – all participants of ICE urban music program.
It’s now possible to hear an exciting selection of urban-styled hip-hop, R&B and South Pacific inspired harmonies from Western Sydney’s emerging young local talent on a double CD compilation of songs, rhythms and rhymes made by participants of the “Island Beatz” program.
Island Beatz involved two music programs for young people from Pacific communities in 2004 and 2005, presented by Information and Cultural Exchange in partnership with South Western Sydney Institute of TAFE Granville Outreach and the Granville Youth & Community Recreation Centre.
Island Beatz has provided an opportunity for young people from Pacific communities to participate in TAFE-accredited workshops in lyric-writing, music production, DJing, live performance and learning about the music business.
“They also got to produce some of their own unique and special sounds in this program, which has given them a really important introduction to the music industry,” says MC Trey, ICE’s own Urban Music Program Coordinator. “More importantly, the music is engaging, lyrical and high quality. I’ve been blown away by the wealth of local talent!”
MC Trey was one of the trainers on the Island Beatz program, along with local DJ Nick Toth, as well as UK MC and beatmaster Mystro, who stopped by to share his wisdom with the young people when he visited Australia. These artists are also featured on the double CD.
Island Beatz double CD is now available for purchase from Information and Cultural Exchange for $15.
