Digital Arts in Community Development: Bringing Holroyd Workers Up To Speed with the Latest Technology for Holroyd Communities
Technology is changing fast and changing lives. And changing communities.
Digital capacity is a huge issue for community services. It’s not just about the latest ‘hardware.’ It’s also about how to use it, understanding the jargon, ‘surfing smart’, engaging online. Using your time better. It’s about new ways to communicate and connect.
We also need to prepare our communities – as well as our organisations, and ourselves – for the enormous changes ahead as digital formats and systems converge.
Supported by Holroyd City Council, CONNECTing Holroyd is a FREE new media and digital arts training program for Holroyd workers. This model of technology training was piloted in 2006 with a group of community workers in the Parramatta area. Here’s what they said:
“Most useful…the JARGON alone was worth coming along for!”
“The course was great. Very informative, very practical and interactive, very inspiring, and lots of fun”
“Being made aware of the process of generating web sites and blogs will assist me to make decisions and contacts for several projects that I am working on and planning for the future”
“What I enjoyed the most was the hands on exercises – blogs & web and the collaborative “sound piece” we created. I enjoyed the information about Community Radio too!!”
Six hands on workshops will take place over 3 weeks
at SWITCH Multimedia and Digital Arts Access Centre, Ground Floor 133 Parramatta Rd, Granville.
Sessions start Tuesday February 13, 2007 and run every Tuesday and Wednesday from 9.30- 1.30 until February 24.
