Hot Topics: Simple photo editing on the go

ICE’s Community IT Program Manager, Liliana Ruti, often works with people who are new to the world of computers and digital media. In this article she shares her latest discovery – a free website that makes photo editing a breeze, even for those who aren’t tech savvy.

PHOTO EDITING MADE SIMPLE

Don’t have the time to teach yourself photo editing? Don’t understand what image resolution you need for your website? Someone has asked you to resize an image ASAP? No worries!

Check out photoshop.com – a free and easy to use website where you can upload and edit your images and then export them for use in places like websites, email, disk and your mobile phone.

To get started, go to photoshop.com and follow the prompts to create an account.

Then, upload the photos you want to edit and use the intuitive screen with easy to understand icons to adjust, crop, resize, straighten photos, remove red eye, rotate and lots more. When you’re ready to do something with your newly edited photos, you hit ‘download’ and export the photos in the right sizes to your computer so you can use them to email, for websites, print, save or burn to disk.

The beauty of this website is that it automatically sets the pixel sizes and measurements that you need to do all those things, and much more! It is also very handy if running workshops when you don’t have any photo editing software, or if you’re doing outreach work and can’t have access to your own computer. As long as there is reliable internet access, you’re in action!

You can also visit the site and do a ‘test drive’ with some sample pictures so you can get the hang of it. You might even get addicted to it.

Happy editing!
