Create Media: celebrating a stunning debut year

In 2009 Create Media debuted as a project that brought together talented, young refugees and migrants, and gave them the opportunity to develop their digital media craft as well as their future employment and business possibilities.

In the course of the year the participants have managed to complete an intensive three month training course, produce numerous works of digital media (including four short films) and have gone on to be nominated for, and to win, awards.

Create Media produced films were represented at the PNAN Youth Arts Film Festival and the 48 Hour Film Festival this year. Participants were also successful in other projects they were involved in. Aisha Kamara won the runners up prize at Tropwest this year, Hawanatu Bangura presented about her Create Media experience at Making Links in Melbourne and Saber Baluch worked on a number of documentaries, including one with ACDN and Palmera Projects.

And the fun has only just begun! 2010 will see the beginning of the Incubation period for Create Media. The selected participants will have financial and mentorship support in setting up their creative enterprise, and launching it out of ICE. Keep an ear out for the announcement in Jan 2010.
