A Tribute to 2Kay

All the staff at ICE have been saddened by the passing of Khaldoon Khalili, aka 2Kay, who had been involved in our Urban Music Program since 2006.

Originally from Jordan, Khaldoon was referred to ICE by Todd Williams at Holroyd Youth Services and participated in our Sound Bombing and Hip Hop 101 projects.

Khaldoon had a wonderful repertoire of songs and performed at a number of different ICE events, notably Hip Hop Projections 2 at Bangarra Theatre. His music was recorded on the Suburban Grooves CD and his lyrics were reproduced in the accompanying book.

Through his music, Khaldoon told tales of his life experiences in a quirky, sometimes comedic style. Trey Thomas, the Coordinator of ICE’s Urban Music Program described him as “one of the most talented writers I have ever worked with.”

Khaldoon was due to perform at Hip Hop Projections 5 on 16 May this year. Instead we played this tribute to our friend.

Our thoughts go out to his friends and family. He will be dearly missed.
