MAYU LAUNCHES DEBUT ALBUM
Mayu Ganeshan has launched his debut album ’Aappam’ – a collection of hip-hop, dance and rock music tracks infused with Tamil film ballads. Mayu was a Create Media! participant, an initiative devised by ICE to develop young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds who are aspiring digital media artists.
“This album combines a lot of my childhood influences because I grew up listening to Tamil ballads,” Ganesham said.
Mayu is a multi-talented musician, composing music, playing the keyboard and guitar, as well as writing the lyrics and vocals on his tracks. He was born in Jaffna, Sri Lanka and has studied audio engineering in both Sri Lanka and Byron Bay.
“Rap artist Lazar Nyembo helped me write lyrics for the album and does a lot of the rapping,” Ganeshan said. He’s worked as a composer for three short films with ICE and has worked as a sound recording artist for the forthcoming Australian movie Silent Eyes directed by James Mathew, to be released this September.
ICE wishes Mayu all the success in his music career and hopes to support him further within the Creative Enterprise Program.
