Toby Chapman

Creative Producer

Toby Chapman is a curator and producer of contemporary visual art who has delivered a broad range of artistic and cultural projects in partnership with local, national and international organisations. He received a Bachelor of Art (Art History & Theory and Film Studies) (Honours) from the University of Sydney in 2009. Since then he has worked at a number of institutions across greater Sydney including Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre, Campbelltown Arts Centre, Museum of Contemporary Art Australia (as Curatorial Assistant, C3West) and 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art. He has assisted in the delivery of major socially-engaged and site-specific projects such as Angelica Mesiti: The Begin Again, A C3West project in partnership with Hurstville City Council (2011); Edge of Elsewhere, Campbelltown Arts Centre & 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art (2012); The Floating Eye: Sydney Pavilion, 9th Shanghai Biennale (2012); and Lara Thoms: Ultimate Visions – Monuments To Us, A C3West project in partnership with Westfield Hurstville (2013). In his previous role at 4A Toby curated over a dozen exhibition including Vertical Villages (2013); MASS GROUP INCIDENT (co-curated with Pedro de Almeida and Aaron Seeto) (2015); James Nguyen: Exit Strategies (2015) and Future Archaeology (2015). He was the inaugural recipient of the NAVA Emerging Curators Grant (2010); participated in the 4A Emerging Curators Intensive (2012) and was a recipient of the MGNSW Curatorial Mentorship (2013).
