Artfiles history
In the year 2000, ‘an arts directory for Parramatta and Holroyd areas’ was printed and distributed by Information and Cultural Exchange (ICE). A nifty A5 size, it was supported by both Parramatta and Holroyd councils, carried paid advertising, and boasted 78 pages of names, contacts, and details.

Artfiles was born.

Within three years the printed directory’s coverage had expanded to include the Greater Western Sydney region and the number of supporting local councils had increased from two to 12.

In 2004, the printed directory was joined by its fledgling online twin .

Artfiles was live online.

As the Noughties rolled on, and feedback from the field increased, Artfiles transformed from a print directory into a professional development program for artists, providing training and information on employment and other creative opportunities.

Armed with a media strategy, the Artfiles program successfully profiled hundreds of artists and groups– and Western Sydney arts– in mainstream, local, Indigenous and culturally-specific media every year.

The release of each year’s printed directory was celebrated with a live showcase that brought the colour, imagination and noise of Western Sydney arts to audiences– ICE style (think Hip Hop Projections with spray paint and dignitaries).

As the last Artfiles directory was printed in 2008, the Artfiles website was redeveloped to become the interactive web resource we use today
