Granville Selfies introduced the process of short filmmaking to students from Granville Boys High School (GBHS) before inviting them to turn the camera on themselves and their stories. From May to June 2014 ICE worked with 26 students from Year 8 and 14 from Year 10 to explore the basics of filmmaking: story development, storyboarding, shot lists, production schedules, filming and post production.
As part of the workshop program the students were offered the opportunity to create their own short films.
Why ‘selfies’ Because selfies provide the individual with creative control, enabling them to govern the image they present to the world at a given point in time. This was the essence of the Granville Selfies project i.e. providing a safe space in which participants could create and project images in their own way.
Granville Selfies was screened on the 27th of November, 2014, for students and teachers in their Library.
