Pitch Perfect

Pitch Perfect supported the development of emerging Western Sydney film-makers/screenwriters. Participants were provided with mentoring by experienced industry professionals including Karen Pearlman, Blake Ayshford, Jennifer Crone, Sukhmani Khorana and John L. Simpson. This program supported the participants to develop and present their ‘pitch’ (their stories/projects) to funding bodies and producers.

Participants included:

Jasna Krsmanovic
Jasna has worked on a number of short film, documentaries and music videos in the roles of writer/director/producer as well as editor over the past 15 years. Her short films have been screened at international and local film festivals including: Aquilar Film Festival, Spain as well as Women on Women Film Festival, Sydney. In 2010 Jasna completed a Graduate Certificate in Directing at AFTRS. She is currently developing her first feature film script as well as working on documentary on male eating disorders.

Jo-Anne Brechin
Jo-Anne is a writer-director who began her film career as script supervisor and assistant director. She has written and directed various short films, documentaries, music videos, as well as corporate and community projects. In 2011, Jo-Anne was awarded Screen Australia’s First Breaks grant for her short film ‘This Dog’s Life’, starring Martin Sacks (Underbelly, Blue Heelers), and in 2012 Jo-Anne was named “Young Filmmaker of the Year” at Cockatoo Island Film Festival. Her award-winning short films have toured nationally and internationally. After completing her screenwriting studies at AFTRS last year, Jo-Anne plans to spend 2014 penning her debut feature film.

Roxie Vuong
Roxie graduated with a BA in Media Arts Production as UTS in 2012. She works as a freelance producer and editor on documentaries and promo videos, mainly within the community sector. She is currently developing a few scripts, all set in Western Sydney, that she hopes to film in the near future.

Rushan Dissanayake & Mike Kang
Rushan and Mike are an up-and-coming producer/writer/director team from Western Sydney. Part of the Alpha Cow Team made up of writers, producers and talent representative of the West, they strive to make diverse TV content with unique and high energy concepts, in both Comedy and Drama. Rushan is also a Freelance Media Specialist and video producer for numerous corporate and event clients. Recent successes include for the duo include an International Screening at the Byron Bay Film Festival 2014 for their recently produced film, ‘When You Fall’.

Tresa Ponnor
Tresa is a directing graduate from the AFTRS. She has directed, produced and written award winning short films and documentaries that have screened at the following festivals: Bondi Film Festival, Melbourne International Comedy Film Festival. Her most recent short film, ‘Sosefina’, has screened at many venues internationally and nationally. It was accepted in to the Chicago International Children’s Film Festival and was chosen as one of nine films to show in New York as part of Asia’s Society’s presentation: Australian Short Film Today. Tresa won Best Director and Best Script at Colourfest Film Festival 2011.

The pitching competition was held mid June with all five participants pitching their stories. The panel was made up of: Courtney Gibson from Channel 9, Rick Kalowski from the ABC, Kate Stone from Screen NSW and independent producer Megan McMurchy. The panel was highly impressed and after careful deliberation awarded the best pitch to Jasna Krsmanovic. Jasna will continue to be mentored over the coming months getting her ready to pitch to funding bodies and producers in 2015.
