Nervous excitement is how we would characterise Monday night at the final pitch session for Produce Perfect. After eight weeks of skills training and professional development, this burgeoning group of screen content producers were ready, but with a panel of industry judges coming to hear their 3-minute pitches we couldn’t blame them for being a little on edge.
The panel included Channel Manager, John Boehm (SBS Viceland), Commissioning and Development Coordinator, Lisa Fagan (ABC Kids), filmmaker Fadia Abboud (I Luv U But, Here Come the Habibs) and the Head of Screen Business and Producing at AFTRS, Peter Herbert. We were also joined in the audience by AFTRS Engagement Manager, Christina Alvarez and Marie Chanel from Pasifika Film Festival to hear from these talented, emerging producers. Twelve pitches were delivered but there could only be one winner… or so we thought.
Danielle Stamoulos took out the much-coveted prize, an AFTRS Open course, for her pitch Curse of the Virgin. However a pleasant surprise awaited three other teams with ABC Kids and SBS Viceland offering to meet one-on-one with producers in the coming weeks. Viceland will be meeting with Alnie Biala for her project Brand Beauty as well as with Ben Keyte and Brendan O’Connell for their pitch Big Balls. And ABC Kids will be meeting with Sandy Maestro for her project Masters Apprentices.
Keep your eyes peeled for these faces, you may just see their series on your screens in the near future!
